Controversial Budget Repair Bill Passes 51-17

Bill that would cut all collective bargaining rights for most public employees except for capped wage increases will move to state Senate.

Brookfield's two state Assembly reps - Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield) and Paul Farrow (R-Pewaukee) voted in favor of the governor's budget repair bill, which passed by a 51-17 vote shortly after 1 a.m. Friday.

Now it goes to to the state Senate, where 14 Democratic senators have fled the state to delay action on the bill in hopes of killing or amending it. The senators have given no indication they plan to return to allow the vote, which Gov. Scott Walker said will force him to lay off state workers because he won't be able to refinance state debt to fund expenses through June 30.
