Five Brookfield Students Nominated For Service Academies

All three of Congressman Sensenbrenner's principal nominees are from the Elmbrook School District.

Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner announced 21 students from his district have received nominations to the U.S. Service Academies, with the all three of the principal nominees from the Elmbrook School District. 

Sarah Fotsh, John LeClaire and Jennifer Niemann were named principal nominees for their "strong record of community service, excellence in academics and sports, and leadership among their peers," said  Sensenbrenner in a statement.

“Each year, I am impressed with the caliber of individuals who apply to my office,” Sensenbrenner said. “… I congratulate each of these students on their nomination and wish them the best of luck on all their future endeavors.”

Fotsch, a senior at Brookfield Central High School and the daughter of Thomas and Dea Anne Fotsch, was named a nominee to the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is involved in basketball, soccer and choir and is a member of the National Honor Society.

LeClaire, a senior at Brookfield East High School and the son of John, the son of Philip and Barbara LeClaire, was named a nominee to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He is involved in football, wrestling, and Latin Club. He is also an Eagle Scout and member of the National Honor Society.

Niemann, a senior at Brookfield Central High School and the daughter of James and Marie Niemann, was named a nominee to the US Military Academy in West Point, New York. She is involved in soccer, swimming, and basketball.  She is also a member of her school’s marching band.

“We are extraordinarily proud of the Elmbrook students who have been named nominees and principal nominees to US Service Academies, said district superintendent Mark Hansen. "They exemplify leadership in academics, athletics and community service, and it’s an honor that they have chosen to use their talents to serve our country’s military.”

Brookfield residents Michael Hur and Ryan VanDaalwyk were named Competing Alternate Nominees.

Hur was nominated to attend the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  Hur is the son of John Hur and Jody Kim and is a senior at Brookfield Academy.

VanDaalwyk was nominated to attend the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado and the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  Ryan is the son of Dennis and Deanne Van Daalwyk and a senior at Brookfield Central High School.
