Flooding, Aesthetics, Traffic Among Reasons for Opposing Apartment Proposal

Two apartment buildings are being proposed for the lots adjacent to Sendik's Towne Centre.

Brookfield officials were met with opposition from more than 50 people at a council meeting on Tuesday regarding the Mandel Group's apartment proposal for the Sendik's Towne Center.

Neighbors said they are concerned that the new development will contribute to flooding problems the area has experienced in recent years, according to a Brookfieldnow.com article. Neighbors were also concerned about traffic and aesthetics.

The Mandel Group presented plans for a 3-story building near Thomson Drive and Richland Parkway, as well as a 2-story development on near the corner of Thomson Drive and Brookfield Road. The buildings would create a total of 60 apartment units.

The Mandel Group did take suggestions from the residents regarding aesthetics, but believes the proposal as a whole benefits the community as it allows the aging population to downsize while staying in Brookfield, the Brookfieldnow.com article said.
