Localized Flooding But No Backups

Tuesday's storms dropped more than 3 inches of rain on Brookfield, causing power outages and road flooding, but no basement backups.

An estimated 3.45 inches of rain fell on parts of the Brookfield area in Tuesday's thunderstorms, causing road flooding and power outages.

The city Fire Department responded to one case of a flooding basement, but City Public Works Director Tom Grisa said he was not aware of any other reports of basement flooding or sewer backups.

"We survived pretty well," Grisa said. "We had a couple trees down."

Less than two dozen Brookfield customers were without power at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, down from about 2,000 customers in the peak of the outages Tuesday, according to We Energies.

Countywide, about 1,200 customers were still waiting for service as of Wednesday afternoon. By Wednesday night, all Brookfield customers were listed as back on the grid, with only a few customers in the western part of Waukesha County still out, where wind gusts were reported to be the highest.

In Brookfield, there were traffic backups caused when signals went out and roads flooded along Blue Mound Road at Sunny Slope Road and at Main Street, as well as near North Avenue and Lilly Road, Grisa said.

Other areas with localized flooding including North 126th Street and Lisbon Road; Versailles Court; Kevenauer and Fieldstone drives (northeast of Dixon Elementary School); and Capitol Drive and Lilly Road.

The Police Department temporarily closed Lilly Road between Keefe Avenue and Burleigh Road.

The Fire Department helped pump water out of a basement in the 800 block of Garvens Road just before 9 p.m. after the home lost power. Fire crews used a neighbor's generator to power two sump pumps to drain the less than 2 inches of standing water.

At James Street and Elm Grove Road, firefighters assisted We Energies in an incident where a branch fell on top of a service line. At North Dechant Road, fire crews brought a generator to power a resident's oxygen system after power was lost.Β

Brookfield fire personnel also performed mutual aid service to New Berlin, where lightning struck a house.
