Longtime will serve as Brookfield’s city clerk, replacing Kristine Schmidt who retired.

Aldermen Tuesday unanimously backed the hiring of Michaels, 1980 graduate of Waukesha North High School whose mother lives in the Waukesha area.

Michaels worked for more than 20 years as clerk and deputy clerk for the city of Wausau, which has about the same population as Brookfield. In January she took a position as city clerk / personnel director for the city of Stoughton, a Dane County community of about 12,000 but was interested in moving back to Waukesha County where she has roots.
