Marketing VP McCarthy Recommended for Aldermanic Seat
Jeff McCarthy, vice president and account director with Meyer & Wallis, has been recommended for the 3rd District aldermanic seat formerly held by the late Jim Garvens.
A vice president of a local advertising agency has been recommended for appointment to the 3rd District aldermanic seat vacated after the .
Jeff McCarthy, vice president and account director at Meyer & Wallis, received the unanimous backing of the city's Legislative and Licensing Committee, which interviewed McCarthy and three other applicants last week.
The Common Council will vote on the recommendation Tuesday night.

The other applicants were former Ald. Jack Shaw, Gary Olsen and Albert Van Lith.
McCarthy said he was "honored and humbled" to be recommended.

"Having grown up in Brookfield and now choosing to raise my own children here, I am excited to give back to the community I call home," he said in an email to Patch. "I'm look forward to meeting more of the residents of the 3rd district, and working with them to ensure that Brookfield continues to be a great place to live and work."
Four of the five members of the Legislative and Licensing committee chose McCarthy as their top choice in their first ranking, with one member favoring Van Lith. The committee then unanimously voted for McCarthy.
McCarthy almost immediately followed through on one of his promises: to create a Facebook page to use for communication with his district constituents.
In his application letter, he wrote: "If chosen to serve, I'll establish a Facebook page where I'll post updates on the issues we're discussing, and invite feedback from the residents of my district."
Noting his wife and he chose to raise their children in Brookfield, McCarthy said, "It's my hope that Brookfield remains a safe, nurturing community for them. Serving as Alderman is one way I can stay informed and have a role in shaping the world around them."
If appointed Tuesday, McCarthy will serve through April 2013 and will have to run for re-election at that time to serve the final year of Garven's four-year term. Aldermen serve four-year terms with an annual salary of about $10,000.
Garvens, 75, . He had served as alderman since 1991.
