Memorial Day Events in Brookfield, Elm Grove

From parades and rifle salutes to pancake breakfasts and wreath-layings on soldiers' graves, there are many ways to celebrate Memorial Day in Brookfield and Elm Grove.

Memorial ceremonies will be held at Oak Hill and St. Mary's Visitation ceremonies, as well as Wisconsin Memorial Park on Monday. And a pancake breakfast, parade and post-parade party will be held throughout Elm Grove.

Sunday, May 27

Wisconsin Memorial Park: The Marine Corps League Memorial Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Garden of Eternal Life at , 13235 W. Capitol Dr. The Avenue of the Flags will feature 1,500 U.S. flags.

Monday, May 28

Oak Hill Cemetery: The public is invited to a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. at the cemetery, 3598 Brookfield Rd. in Brookfield, on the east side of the road just north of Brookfield Academy. It is hosted by Behling-Kutchera American Legion Post 296.

The Smokey Hollow Muzzleloaders, donned in period clothing, will perform a formation. A wreath will be laid at the grave of Revolutionary War veteran Nathan Hatch. Local historian Stephen Hauser will be among those speaking, and music is planned, including Taps on bugle. The 1812 Daughters will also be there, marking the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.

Elm Grove Women's Club: The Elm Grove Woman's Club's will be held from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Monday, May 28 at the Elm Grove Woman's Club clubhouse, 13885 Watertown Plank Rd., Elm Grove.

Tickets for the breakfast are $6 for adults and $4 for children 2 to 10 years of age and are available at the door. Joe Becker will be the "guest of honor" server at the breakfast with pancakes, sausage, orange juice, sweet rolls and milk or coffee. An 18-inch strand of black pearls and matching pearl earrings will be raffled off.

St. Mary’s Visitation Cemetery: Members of the American Legion Post 449 will honor a veteran in a 9 a.m. ceremony at the cemetery, on the south side of Watertown Plank Road, just east of O’Donoghue’s Irish Pub in Elm Grove.

Elm Grove Village Park: The 65th annual will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Village Park, head north on Legion Drive, east on Elmhurst Parkway, south on Church Street, west on Watertown Plank Road and south on Elm Grove Road to Wall Street.

This year's theme for the parade, organized by the Elm Grove Junior Guild, is "Land that I Love!" Reporting time for parade units is 8:30 a.m. and children are invited to ride their decorated bicycles in the parade. Non-perishable food donations will be collected for local veterans in need.

Sendik's parking lot: A post-parade party will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sendik's, 3425 W. Watertown Plank Road with live music, food and entertainment.

Wisconsin Memorial Park: A parade, concerts and other Memorial Day tributes will begin at 9 a.m. at , 13235 W. Capitol Dr. in Brookfield.
