Mosquito Treatment Planned for Thursday

Due to elevated larvae counts, a city contractor will be conducing mosquito treatments via helicopter over 550 acres of private, public lands.

About 550 acres of land are planned to be treated Thursday for mosquito abatement due to elevated larvae counts, city officials said today.

For the second time this month, contractor Clark Environmental Mosquito Management Inc. plans to apply the treatment of the biolarvicide, VectoLex CG, via helicopter on city wetlands and floodplains. Thursday's treatment will begin at daybreak and continue throughout that day.

Residents were advised to avoid being in treatment areas during the application, but said there are no restrictions on public use of land after treatment. The treatment is a naturally occurring soil bacterium in a granular form.
