Reflecting On Sandy Hook Tragedy, Schools Chief Says Emotional Support In Place

Hansen says that the district was to provide addition support to parents and children on Monday to help work through some of their emotions during this difficult time.

Elmbrook School Superintendent Mark Hansen reflected on Friday's horrific tragedy in Connecticut on his blog, says the district's thoughts and prayers are with the families of Sandy Hook and that the district continues to assess the safety and security protocols.

He also indicated that all of the schools have emergency protocols in place which have been created through collaboration with law enforcement in the area.

Echoing information he provided to the Patch on Friday, Hansen said that these protocols cover a number of different scenarios "including preparedness for such senseless acts as witnessed most recently at Sandy Hook."

"Although we cannot release details to these plans for obvious reasons, please know that we have emergency procedures and protocols in place."

He also said that the district was to provide addition support to parents and children on Monday to help work through some of their emotions during this difficult time.

In addition, he said the National Association of School Psychologists has resources to help parents and children cope with their emotions.
