Resident Files Petition to Incorporate Town as a Village

Jay Walt filed a formal petition in Waukesha County Circuit Court to start the state review of whether the Town of Brookfield should become a village.

Town of Brookfield resident Jay Walt has filed a formal request to incorporate the town with a portion of the Town of Waukesha into a village.

Represented by Town Attorney James Hammes, Walt filed an incorporation petition Monday in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

The case was assigned to Waukesha County Circuit Judge Donald Hassin Jr., who will begin his review of the filing at a Jan. 12 hearing.

This is the town's third attempt at incorporation and this time it had to seek to add part of the Town of Waukesha in the proposed village boundaries in order to have the minimum required amount of land to incorporate.

But Walt has said the Town of Brookfield deserves protection as its own self-sustaining government entity which offers high-quality public services at a lower cost than its city neighbors.
