Restaurant, Hair Salon and Fro-Yo Stand Planned Next to Trader Joe's

Ryan Co. is negotiating leases with those tenants for a new 5,300-square-foot building whose architecture was endorsed Monday by the city Plan Commission.

A "fast-casual" restaurant, hair salon and frozen yogurt stand are planned for a 5,300-square-foot building to be constructed next to the soon-to-open Trader Joe's.

Both food businesses plan to have small outdoor dining patios, under plans endorsed Monday by the city Plan Commission.

But who the new specific tenants will be is yet unknown. Kyle Schott, project manager for developer Ryan Cos., said in an interview Monday that leases are still being finalized and were not yet signed. Examples of "fast casual" dining include Chipotle and Panera.

Schott said the negotiations were close and construction hopefully would begin this fall, with the tenants opening their doors in winter or next spring.

Plan commissioners recommended approval of the proposed architecture and plan of operation. It will be the latest building constructed in the 170,000-square-foot Underwood Crossing center where a on Bluemound Road at North 128th Street.

Trader Joe's is slated to , the second Milwaukee-area location for the popular grocer also at Bayshore Mall. A PNC Bank also is being constructed nearest to .

A junior anchor attached to Target also has not yet been announced.

City plan commissioners Monday praised Stephen Perry Architects for keeping the design of the multi-tenant retail building similar to the Trader Joe's, with comparable canopies, building materials, wall sconces and lighting. The building can house four tenants but current lease negotiations would accommodate three.
