Romney Ran up Big Margins with Brookfield City, Town Voters

Voters in the City and Town of Brookfield chose Romney over Santorum by roughly two-to-one margins, according to Patch's review of election records. See which aldermanic districts were Romney's biggest backers.

In one of the nation's brightest red counties, Brookfield voters overwhelmingly chose former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney over Rick Santorum to challenge President Barack Obama for the White House.

Romney got 66 percent of the vote in the city and 60 percent in the town, far above his overall statewide win with 44 percent.

Santorum finished with 25 percent in the city and 33 percent in the town. Statewide, Santorum got 37 percent.

Ron Paul came in a distant third with 6 and 4 percent of the city and town votes, respectively, which was slightly ahead of Newt Gingrich.

Breaking down the City of Brookfield votes by its seven aldermanic districts, Romney ran up the largest margin — 70 percent — in the centrally located District 5 represented by Aldermen Gary Mahkorn and Scott Berg.

The "least" support — still overwhelming 61 and 62 percents — were in the city's two most eastern Districts 1 and 7 which border Milwaukee County to the north and south of Elm Grove. Incumbent aldermen Dan Sutton and Renee Lowerr on Tuesday's ballot in those eastern districts.

Total Brookfield city turnout was 43 percent Tuesday, much lower than the 53 percent turnout last April for the state Supreme Court race and the 52 percent city turnout in 2008 for the last presidential primary with McCain/Huckabee and Obama/Clinton.

While Romney whomped Santorum in Brookfield — and all of southeastern Wisconsin — Santorum won much of the rest of the state where he made numerous visits and Romney (and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan) did not.
