Should Waukesha Change Trick or Treat Date and Hours?

Waukesha Common Council President Paul Ybarra asks mayor to consider moving Halloween tradition to Saturdays.

While it is “more than likely” too late to change the Halloween Trick or Treat hours in Waukesha for 2011, said he would still be opening to changing the date in the future.

The city's website states that Trick or Treat for 2011 is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. It's the mayor's duty to set the hours for the Halloween activity each year.

Common Council President Paul Ybarra asked Scrima Tuesday night to see if the hours could change to the Saturday before Halloween. While the kids won’t care about what day they get to dress up in costumes and gather candy from their neighbors, Ybarra said it does affect parents when Oct. 31 is on a school night.

Ybarra, in his request, noted that if it is too late to change the hours for 2011, that consideration to the request is given for Halloween 2012.

The Trick or Treat times is important to parents, Ybarra said after the Common Council meeting.

“It is probably too late for this year, because I know there are a number of other things that are planned around that,” Scrima said.

Scrima said he wants to hear what the community thinks about the issue and invited them to tell him via Patch.  We also have a Facebook poll where you can answer how you feel about Trick or Treat hours.

“I would welcome feedback from the community on this issue,” Scrima said. “It is certainly a question that is worth receiving input and being discussed.”

I agree with Jd. By the time I get home from work and get two kids ready... it will b half over. Plus my husband doesn't get home til 6 so whose going to hand out the candy at my house. If u r going to keep it on Halloween at least changed the time to 6 to 8 or something.

Oh yeah, have the kids out trick or treating on a Saturday day night with all of the drunk drivers out there great idea. If you have to work and your too tired set it up for them to go with an older sibling, the neighbor kids, or a babysitter. Also I agree with "Waukesha resident", don't they have more important things to discuss???

I HATE that trick or treat is at night in this city! I grew up going out in the daytime, while everyone was watching the football game, and i believe the mayor of this city was wrong when they changed it. you cant see all the cool costumes and I believe most parents dont want to take out their younger ones b.c. of alot of factors that could happen at night vs the daytime. No wonder alot of folks go out the Halloween weekend and take their kids out to the towns that have it during the day.

I found this website as I was trying to google when trick or treat was going to be this year (2012). I agree that it should be on a Saturday afternoon. . My daughter and her husband both work until 6pm. Kids look forward to this event for a long time. My grandson is already trying on his costume and would like to enjoy wearing it for more than an hour. Kids and parents are alot happier when they are not so stressed out during the week. Any two working parents with small kids in school, trying to juggle dinner, homework, baths etc knows exactly what I mean.

My son's birthday is on Halloween and we love going trick-or-treating on the 31st. Please leave the date for Waukesha because its so much fun for the kids to do it in the evening on Halloween.
