The Week Ahead: On the Calendar in Brookfield

Along with school district and city matters, tournament basketball gets under way and two fundraisers aim to aid against hearing loss and cancer.

Looking for interesting events coming up this week in Brookfield, or want to keep up with the public's business on schools and civic matters? Here are some highlights on the calendar.

The Elmbrook School Board will discuss the impacts to the district from Gov. Scott Walker's proposed budget during its meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

A meeting of the Community Development Committee scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled.

There will be a neighborhood informational meeting on the Sutter Creek development from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers at City Hall.

The Girls Basketball Sectional begins and East plays Central in the first round at 7 p.m. Friday at Central. Check here for the brackets.

Hope and help for hearing impairments

The Sound of Hope Charity Dinner/Auction is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton Brookfield Hotel, 375 S Moorland Rd.

The Sound of Hope goal is to raise funds to support the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Hearing Loss Program, helping to recognize children with hearing impairment at an early age, allowing them to receive all of the necessary technology and therapy options to provide them with the ultimate chance to succeed.

Donations and $50 admission will allow the development of a comprehensive database for ensuring timely treatment and intervention in all affected newborns. 

Stop in and lend a hand against leukemia

The Chris Graesing Leukemia Fundraising Event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at T.G.I. Friday's, 17430 W Bluemound Rd. Admission is free.

Chris Graesing, an automotive service technician at Jack Safro Toyota, was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy to treat and hopefully cure him of this cancer of the blood; however, support of people, friends and family is still needed and is one of the best treatments.
