Three Finalists Selected for City Clerk Post

The finalists are former or current municipal clerks and do not include Ald. Lisa Mellone, who resigned office to apply for the clerk job.

Three former or current municipal clerks were selected as the three finalists to replace retiring Brookfield City Clerk Kristine Schmidt.

Ald. Lisa Mellone, who resigned her elected post so she could apply for the city clerk job, was not among the final three. She could not be reached Wednesday morning to comment on whether she would seek to return to the 7th district aldermanic seat she held since 2006.

A city panel narrowed the 44 applications to a dozen candidates who were interviewed last week, including Mellone. These three finalists were chosen from the dozen:

  • Jennifer Goergen, Greenfield city clerk and former Oconomowoc deputy city clerk. Goergen has a bacherlor's of science degree in business administration.
  • Anna Kettlewell, office administrator for the executive director of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and former Hales Corners deputy village clerk. Kettlewell has a master of public affairs degree from the LaFollette School at the University of Wisconsin.
  • Kelly Michaels, city clerk / personnel director for the City of Stoughton and former Wausau city clerk. Michaels has bachelor's of science degree in business management.

City Attorney Karen Flaherty, to whom the city clerk would report, and Mayor Steve Ponto will interview the finalists for a possible recommendation for Common Council approval next month.
