Town of Brookfield Lifts Burning Ban, City Ban Still On

While outdoor burning in the town may resume, the fire chief cautions residents to follow the town's rules on outdoor burning.

The Town of Brookfield has lifted its outdoor burning ban.

Fire Chief Andrew Smerz urged residents to burn with caution and follow the town burning ordinance rules which include:

  • No burning when wind conditions exceed 10 mph
  • Constant supervising of the burning materials by a competent person at least 16 years of age (until complete extinguishment of the fire)
  • Have fire extinguishing equipment (preferably a garden hose) within 20 feet of the burning site.

The City of Brookfield's outdoor burning ban remains in effect. The city's ban includes "fires in all outdoor fireplaces, pits, burning lawn waste, campfires and the private use of consumer fireworks, including sparklers, caps and novelty fireworks.... This ban does not prohibit residents from using contained grills for cooking food."
