UPDATE: Three Aldermen, Two School Board Members Challenged for Re-Election

Waukesha County Supervisor Tom Schellinger filed papers just before Tuesday's deadline to challenge Ald. Renee Lowerr.

(Updated 5:30 p.m.) Both Elmbrook School Board members up for re-election April 3 will face challengers, as well as three of eight city aldermen. The city's municipal judge and both town supervisors will have no opponents on the spring ballot.

Just 45 minutes before Tuesday's deadline to file candidate nomination paperwork, former Brookfield Ald. Tom Schellinger, 240 Leanore Lane, presented his documents seeking to challenge 7th District Ald. Renee Lowerr, 17075 Elizabeth Dr.

Former Municipal Judge Richard Steinberg, 2490 Sheraton Rd., will seek to oust 1st District Ald. Dan Sutton, 14900 Woodland Pl. Cathy Wolfla, 18960 Alta Vista Dr., a member of the city's Police and Fire Commission, will challenge 4th District Ald. Buck Jurken, 2040 Erin Court.

Like Jurken, Wolfla applied for appointment to the 4th District seat that opened when then-Ald. Steve Ponto was elected as mayor. The Common Council chose Jurken for the appointment.

Facing no opposition to their re-election bids will be Municipal Judge Jeff Warchol and aldermen Rick Owen, Ron Balzer, Scott Berg, Christopher Blackburn and Lisa Mellone.

Aldermen serve four-year terms earning $9,911 a year. Mellone's term, however, is for two years. She was required to run for re-election after she resigned her seat mid-term to apply for a city job and then was appointed back to her seat. but after interviewing Mellone and Schellinger last fall, aldermen re-appointed Mellone to her seat.

On the , Meg Wartman, 2425 Whippletree Lane, will face a challenge from Lynne Thomas, 18540 High Meadow Dr., for her at-large seat. Paul Byrne, 705 Kurtis Dr. in Elm Grove, will oppose Jean Lambert, 15150 Tulane Court, in her re-election bid to her Area IV seat.

School Board members serve three-year terms and earn $3,600 per year.

In the Town of Brookfield, incumbent town supervisors Patrick Stroebel, 19545 Black Forest Dr. and John Schatzman, 22129 Ridge Rd., have filed papers to serve another two-year term earning $5,000 annually. No challengers filed papers by Tuesday's deadline.
