Wisconsin National Guard Deploying Soldiers to Kosovo

Sendoff ceremony is Friday for about 150 troops from a Milwaukee-based brigade.

Gov. Scott Walker, joined my military officials, will take part in a sendoff ceremony for about 150 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers on Friday morning at Gen. Mitchell International Airport.

The soldiers are a part of Milwaukee’s 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB), a group that totals more than 2,100 combatants.

The 150 militants who meet on Friday will first be sent to mobilization training for two months in Camp Atterbury in Indiana. Then they will be sent to Kosovo around Thanksgiving to support the NATO-led peace operation known as KOFR, a mission where 5,500 troops from 30 countries are deployed today.

While in Kosovo, the troops will command foreign military units like Poland, Greece and Ukraine. The group will also oversee more than 700 other U.S. soldiers from around the country.
