Join the Rally to Support Homeownership!

Show your support for this cornerstone of family and community strength at the Rally for Homeownership in Milwaukee Oct. 2nd.

On Tuesday, October 2, citizens are encouraged to attend a special Rally for Homeownership from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at O’Donnell Park in Milwaukee, held to highlight the importance of homeownership in America and generate awareness of vital housing issues for the upcoming November 6 elections. Free lunch will be offered.

The rally will be held by the Metropolitan Builders Association (MBA), Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and will feature the following political, business and community leaders speaking out in support:

  • Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (invited)
  • Wisconsin Senate candidate Tommy Thompson
  • Cathie Madden, LISC Milwaukee Board of Directors Chair
  • Carla Cross, MMAC Business Council Executive Director
  • Sue Loomans, PropertyVets (leading Pledge of Allegiance)

With home prices stabilizing and the housing market now showing signs that it is on the mend, some policymakers are proposing radical changes that threaten to derail the fragile housing and economic recovery, as well as the dream of homeownership for millions of current and future Americans.

These changes include scaling back the mortgage interest deduction and imposing more stringent lending requirements that will restrict the availability of affordable home mortgages and low down payment options, and allowing the foreclosure crisis to deepen.

Concerned citizens who believe that homeownership must remain an important national policy are encouraged to attend the Rally for Homeownership and take part in a petition drive that asks them to declare their support for keeping the mortgage interest deduction intact, increasing access to credit and mitigating the flow of foreclosures.
