"Tanorexic" Mom Made a Lot of Mistakes

This is a lose-lose for the Tanorexic Mom in my eyes. Either she took her daughter tanning, or she left her unattended.

Let me just start out by saying I love having a tan. I think other people with tans are good looking. I love the way my skin glows when I'm outside for a little while. It makes me happy.

With that being said, I slather my 4-year-old son in layers of SPF 50 and reapply every hour, and every time he gets out of the water (after drying him off, of course). Because as his mom, it's my job to protect him. And hopefully he will keep up what I'm doing and keep slathering on the SPF, but if not, then it's my job to do it until he's old enough to screw with his own body.

I don't know much about this story. I know that the mother looks ridiculous, like someone should stick a fork in her on Thanksgiving. I know the little girl told her friends or teacher that she was burned from going tanning with her mommy. The mother is apparently saying the little girl went with her to the tanning salon, but not in the bed. Am I the only one who thinks that is terrible as well? Who leaves their 6-year-old unattended?! While they tan?! STUPID PEOPLE!!!

I don't know what the end of this case will be. The girl is 6 years old, so I'm pretty sure she could tell the police or whoever that she went in to the booth, or didn't go in to the booth with her mom. But I do hope something happens to make an example of parents who think it's OK to leave their kids alone in public. Because it isn't.

"I'll just leave little Billy in the car while I run in to the store quickly, he's sleeping and I don't want to wake him."
"I'll leave little Susie in the waiting room while I get tan because I'm not dark enough yet. It will only be a few minutes."
"I'll leave little Freddie in the house while I run out, he's sleeping so it will be fine."

Wrong.  Don't do it.  Ever.

I know it can be tempting, and you never think something will happen, until it does. And then it can't be undone. Your child is dead, missing, or you lose him/her because of the possibility that your child could've ended up dead or missing.

In closing: PAY ATTENTION!  Put your children first!  If you can't wait until your husband gets home from work to tan, then hire a babysitter!
