What To Keep in Your Car in the Summer
A handy list of things to come in handy to have in the car during the warm months.
We all enjoyed that tease of summer a few weeks ago, and now that the warmth is almost here for good, here's a handy list of what to keep on hand when you're on the road.
- Sunscreen! It’s worth it to have an extra bottle. I used to keep a travel-sized one in my car, but now I just get an extra full-sized. It will get used.
- Water. Lots of it. My son and I always take cold water in the car with us when we go anywhere, but I always keep extra in there. Even if it’s warm, if I need it, it’s there.
- First Aid Kit. I always keep one in my car, but I stock up on extra band-aids in the summer, that’s when most of the owwies happen.
- Blankets. I keep 2 during the summer (as opposed to the 5 during the winter). One as a picnic blanket, and one as an extra, maybe as a towel if we forget our beach towel. (You should keep an extra beach towel in your car too.)
- Snacks. Nothing that will melt though. I keep a few granola bars without chocolate, and a Tupperware of Cheerios.
- Extra clothes. You don’t need half your wardrobe in the car. But I keep an extra t-shirt at least. That way if I get wet or messy, I have an extra shirt, and if my son needs it, he can wear it too- even if it’s big on him. He can also use it as a swim suit if we don’t have his along. I keep a sweatshirt for each of us in case it gets chilly too.
- Sunglasses. I tend to accumulate sunglasses in ridiculous amounts. But they’re nice to have in case yours break, or if someone forgot theirs.
- Rain ponchos. I picked some up at the dollar store, and they have come in handy on more than one occasion.
- Toys. I like to keep bubbles, balls, and sidewalk chalk along to entertain my son and other kids.
- Other. I always keep a multi-purpose tool, pen and paper, hand sanitizer, hand/face wipes, and extra napkins in my car at all times.
There you have it, what I stock my car with during the hot summer months. What’s important to keep in yours?
