Brookfield East Team Fourth in Heat at 2013 Penn Relays

This prestigious track and field meet is the largest of its kind and brings in only the best high school athletes from around the U.S. and internationally.

Four athletes from Brookfield East High School took fourth place on Friday in their heat in the 3,200 relay at the 2013 Penn Relays.

The Penn Relays, run in Philadelphia since 1895, is billed as the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country. But it has grown to include high school, youth, masters and even international competition featuring Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.

The Brookfield East foursome included Stephen Browne, Trenton Daniels, Ryan Dundon and Brad Johnson. They competed in one of two Small School heats and finished fourth in 7 minutes, 57.26 seconds. It is the fastest time in the state so far this season, according to the state honor roll on WisSports.net.

Brookfield East was one of only two Wisconsin schools represented at the 2013 Penn Relays. According to the Penn Relays website, more than 22,000 entries were expected this year, about half in the high school competition. Attendance was expected to be more than 110,000 for the three-day event.
