Burleigh Students Get Chinese Tour

As the Year of the Rabbit kicks off, a Chinese native explains how people celebrate their New Year.

Students at Burleigh Elementary School got a lesson Wednesday in Chinese culture and the Chinese New Year. Teaching them was school volunteer Yanting Liu (students call her Miss Vivian), a Chinese native currently working with a family in Oconomowoc.

Liu explained how the Chinese New Year is celebrated and helped children make a red money envelope and a Chinese dragon paper puppet and write a Chinese message for good fortune.

The Chinese New Year began Feb. 3 and starts a month of travel by Chinese residents. Boston.com's "The Big Picture" published a collage of photos in China related to the start of the Year of the Rabbit.
