Brookfield East skiier Erica Engstrand will try to defend her state title this weekend at the Wisconsin State High School Skiing Championships at Mount LaCrosse.
Engstrand captured first place overall as a sophomore and junior, skiing steady and avoiding the big mistake while rivals stumbled at key moments.
Engstrand tied for second in the last individual meet of the season, and the Brookfield East girls finished fourth, just missing out on a team trip to state.
