East's Noack and Doubles Team Win Openers at WIAA Tennis State

Brookfield East had six players involved; Brookfield Central sent two doubles teams.

Brookfield East senior Bridget Noack (19-10) defeated Samantha Nagin of Madison West (10-11) 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the WIAA Division 1 girls state individual tennis tournament in Madison on Thursday.

Noack faces Gina Gambucci (14-8) of West Bend East at 10 a.m. Friday. Keep up with regular updates on results at the WIAA girls tennis website.

Also winning Thursday was the doubles team of Erica Engstrand and Jessica Huang (9-9), who beat  Hallie Mueller and Mackenzie Cunningham of Eau Claire Memorial (27-6) by a 7-6 (5), 6-2 count. The Spartan duo faces Katie Hammond and Erin Cole of Fond du Lac (25-4) at 11 a.m. today.

Hammond and Cole defeated Brookfield Central's Ali Bublitz and Annie Porritt (26-9) 6-2, 6-2 in Thursday's opening round.

Also playing today after earning byes are Brookfield East duo Sophie Carr and Simone Hussussian (17-8). They face Abby Ross and Jena Sieckert of Appleton North (14-6) at 11 a.m. Brookfield Central doubles unit Caroline Treis and Brooke Skemp (23-7) got a first-round bye and plays Sarah Kuhn and Lauren Rosenstock of Madison West (13-2) at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Brookfield East junior Brigette Potter (16-11) lost her opening singles match against senior Beth Richmond of Eau Claire Memorial (30-4) 6-3, 6-0.
