Fairview South's Homecoming Game a Hit for Students, Alumni

Students at the special education school in Brookfield played co-ed touch football Friday during homecoming week.

Under warm, sunny skies, students at in Brookfield ran for touchdowns in a co-ed touch football homecoming game that ended in a tie.

The co-operative special education school in Brookfield teaches students from throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

Alumni, staff, students and families cheered on the red and white teams. Alexa Gruver, 16, drove in a touchdown in her wheelchair, pumping her fist high in the air.

"She's just loving it," said her mother Julie Grover, who added Alexa was most looking forward to the homecoming dance for which she bought a silvery grey dress.

Alexa smiled and rubbed her nose, which her mother explained means "yes." She also communicates through a keyboard but didn't have it on her wheelchair for the football game.

After the game, students cooled off with ice cream treats provided by the Brookfield Central High School Key Club.

Earlier Friday, the school had a homecoming parade down Bermuda Boulevard, joined by the Central High Marching Band, and tonight is the school's homecoming dance in the decorated gym. 

The homecoming court has three kings — Andrew McIntyre, Evan Springer and Milos Buac, and two queens — Amber Fallon and Lindsey Roedell.
