Lancers Team, East Individual Qualify for WIAA Girls Golf State

State tournament is Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison

Led by Amanda Riesner's 78, the Brookfield Central girls golf team finished second in the Kenosha Tremper Sectional on Tuesday to land the last spot in the WIAA Division 1 state tournament, according to results on the WIAA website.

The Lancers shot 332, three shots behind sectional champion Divine Savior Holy Angels. Also scoring for Central were freshman Grace Dunn (82), senior Anne Parker (86), junior Christine Tang (86) and junior Katie Bews (99).

Brookfield East was fourth among the eight sectional teams with a 341 total, but the Spartans will send junior Sierah Gurske to state as an individual for the third consecutive year. She shot 81, tied for third overall and tied for low individual not on one of the state qualifying teams.

Other Spartan scores were senior Kristy Stevlingson (86), senior Sarah Hepperla (92), sophomore Katie Hartman (95) and senior Nora Whetter (106).

Central took ninth at state last year with a two-day total of 734. Gurske shot rounds of 76-81 for a 157 total, good for 14th overall. As a freshman, she placed 25th with a two-day total of 173.

Play in the 36-hole championships begins Monday at University Ridge in Verona.
