Layoffs Possible in Elmbrook Schools for 2013-14 School Year

Elmbrook School District administrators proposed a plan that would cut 25 to 30 staff for the upcoming school year citing declining enrollment and limited revenue.

The Elmbrook School District will likely kick off the 2013-14 school year with about 30 fewer staff members than the current year.

An enrollment decrease of about students and limited state funding are behind the plan to drop 25 to 30 staff members from the district, according to a Brookfield NOW article. Some could be layoffs. Administrators presented the plan to the School Board this week; a final vote will not come until June.

This is not the first time declining enrollment has impacted the district. In 2011, the School Board voted to to shut down Hillside Elementary to close budget gaps amid declining enrollment, despite pleas from residents to keep the school open.
