Meet Jennie Katrichis, New School Psychologist at Central, Tonawanda

After 17 years at MPS, including the last five working with special needs students, Katrichis is excited about joining Elmbrook's "wonderful community." She's a Sunday School teacher and sports fan.

About 30 new teachers, plus new administrators and other staff, are joining the Elmbrook School District this year, and Brookfield Patch is introducing some to the community as the 2012-13 school year gets underway.

You can read their stories here.

Today, we feature Jennie Katrichis, a new school psychologist at Brookfield Central High School and and part of the district administrative team.

Administrative assignment: I am very fortunate to be serving the students, families and staffs at Brookfield Central High School and Tonawanda Elementary School as their new school psychologist.

Hometown, current community: I was born in Milwaukee but was raised in Whitewater. Over the last 17 years, I have lived in Milwaukee, but moved to Brookfield this summer. I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful community!

Education, experience: I completed my undergraduate and graduate work at UW-Whitewater. I was hired by Milwaukee Public Schools upon graduation, and had the privilege of working there for the last 17 years. While in MPS, I worked primarily with students at the K-8 level, and was afforded many diverse and rewarding experiences. Over the last 5 years, however, I was able to focus a great deal on inclusion and positive behavioral supports while working with children with a variety of special education needs including autism spectrum disorders and significant health and physical needs.

Why did you choose Elmbrook? The Elmbrook School District has always been highly regarded not only for their commitment to academic excellence, but also for developing the whole child. I was fortunate to have my children accepted into the district through the Open Enrollment program. As a parent and educator, I couldn’t have been more impressed! I also couldn’t help but want to be a part of this amazing school district that was full of such highly dedicated, professional and caring staff members, too!

Hobbies: I love attending my children’s activities and spending time with family! I am also a Sunday School teacher at our church, and enjoy working outside/gardening, cooking, and watching a great movie. I also love watching and cheering for all Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Brewers and Packers.

Favorite vacation: My favorite vacations are with my family anywhere warm and by water!

Over the past several years, there have been several youth from throughout the world who haveRead More attended high school for one academic year in the Elmbrook School District through the Rotary youth exchange program. It is a tremendous opportunity for growth by the young adult, as well as the host family! If you have even the slightest bit of interest, I'd encourage you to contact Bill Petterson from the Elmbrook Rotary. It's a long-standing international program with many checks and balances so the experience is beneficial for all concerned.

We hosted a high school girl from Thailand three years ago and we continue that friendship with herRead More and her family. Not only do you, as a host family give a young person from another country a better understanding of America and Americans, but you learn about the perspectives and viewpoints of people from a totally different culture. It opens up our world view. If you have never hosted, do it!

I believe your first 4 words. After that your credibilty dramatically falls off. The only "beatRead More down" received was by the middle & low income class of Wisconsinites. "As governor, I will sign legislation to prohibit the members of the State Legislature from voting after 10:00 at night or before 9:00 in the morning. This commonsense reform ensures the public has the opportunity to contact elected representatives about their votes on any pending legislation important to them. I have two teenagers and I tell them that nothing good happens after midnight. That's even more true in politics. The people of Wisconsin deserve to know what their elected leaders are voting on." --Scott Walker
