Redesign of Elmbrook's Health Insurance to Save $800,000

Changes said to balance cost savings and employee satisfaction.

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, the Elmbrook School Board approved a redesign of the district’s health insurance plan that will result in an estimated $880,000 in savings for the district.

The savings of $880,000 will be in addition to the increased employee contributions, to 12.6 percent, already planned, according to the district.

“I think that they’ve come up with nice balanced approach that will be acceptable to our employees and in the long run, save the district money,” School Board Vice President and Personnel Committee Chair Meg Wartman said in thanking staff for their work on the plan.

Effective January 1, 2012, the plan allows for employee choice, supplies incentives for wellness, provides no-cost annual physicals and age screenings, and introduces a higher deductible/consumer-driven plan for all covered staff members, according to Keith Brightman, Elmbrook assistant superintendent for finance and operations.

The plan also adds a sustainability component by allowing higher deductible plans and increased wellness incentives to be added in future years, Brightman said.
