Elmbrook School Aid Rises $200K
Elmbrook is one of just 13 school districts out of 424 statewide to receive an increase in state aid. But local property taxes — not state aid – continues to be Elmbrook's overwhelming revenue source.
State aid to the Elmbrook School District will rise by about $200,000 or 3.67 percent, but local property taxes — not state aid — will continue to be the lion's share of Elmbrook's revenue.
Of 424 school districts statewide, Elmbrook is one of just 13 that will see its state aid increase for 2011-12, according to preliminary estimates released today by the state Department of Public Instruction.
The 13 districts seeing aid gains also include the Milwaukee suburban districts of Fox Point J2, Mequon-Thiensville, Pewaukee and Stone Bank.

On the other end of the spectrum, New Berlin will see a 17 percent aid cut or $1,325,219, and Oconomowoc Area schools will lose 27 percent of the district's aid, or $1,534,807. Milwaukee Public Schools will see a drop of $54 million, or nine percent, and Madison Metropolitan will lose $6.7 million or 13 percent.
Actual aid figures will not be known until October after final enrollment and other information is known.

Elmbrook is estimated to receive $6,076,766 in state aid to help fund its nearly $80 million budget. That aid is up 3.67 percent, or $214,969, from the $5,861,807 in state aid received for the 2010-11 school year, according to the DPI.
For Elmbrook, the blow in the state budget was not the state aid loss or gain. The blow was the budget's . That means Elmbrook must take in 5.5 percent less revenue from property tax collections, state aid and other revenue sources.
