Wartman, Lambert to Seek Re-Election to Elmbrook School Board

The two board members whose terms expire in April said Tuesday they will seek re-election to another term.

Meg Wartman and Jean Lambert said Tuesday they will seek re-election to the Elmbrook School Board in the spring elections.

Lambert, who was elected to the board in 2009, said she plans to seek a second term to her Area IV seat because she wants to work on issues and build on the knowledge she's gained.

Issues to be addressed in the next term, she said, include a "greater focus on student achievement, particularly language arts /reading" and "acclimating a new superintendent."

Also important, she said, are strengthening the school communities following the closure of Hillside and addressing "new world" implications of the elimination of most or all collective bargaining, depending on whether district unions choose to recertify or not, Lambert said.

Wartman, who has been served on the School Board for nine years, said she will seek another term to work on district issues.

"I'm excited about what we're doing," she said, adding: "I hope to be here next year."

Any interested candidates can circulate nomination papers starting Dec. 1, and paperwork must be returned by Jan. 3 to be on the April 3 ballot. Candidates for Wartman's at-large seat can live anywhere in the district; candidates for Lambert's Area IV seat must live in the district's southeastern quadrant.

If more than two candidates file for either board seat, a Feb. 21 primary election will be held. The top vote-getters in April will serve three-year terms and earn $3,600 a year.

Information sessions for interested candidates will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 and at 9 a.m. Dec. 9 at the district's administrative offices, 13780 Hope St.

Details about the election can be found on the district's website or by contacting Deputy Election Clerk Pat Felde at 262-781-3030 ext. 1140.
