Mayor's Statement - BRAD Petition Validated & Recommended Action

October 24, 2013  11:00 a.m.

Statement from Mayor Steven Ponto:

Brookfield City Clerk Kelly Michaels has today certified that sufficient signatures were submitted on October 18, 2013 by the B.R.A.D. Group in connection with their petition for direct legislation to adopt an ordinance in accordance with Wisconsin law.  The proposed ordinance would require that, prior to acquiring any land which has been mined or filled, the City of Brookfield submit to the electorate a binding referendum for approval of such acquisition.

I will recommend to the Common Council that this proposed ordinance be adopted at its November 5, 2013 meeting.  I call upon Super Excavators, Siepmann Group and the B.R.A.D. Group to meet and try to reach an amicable resolution of this matter which satisfies the legitimate concerns of the affected parties, and serves the best interests of the Brookfield community.  I would be happy to do whatever I can to facilitate such discussions.

I have spoken with both Alderman Dan Sutton and Alderman Bill Carnell who represent the First Aldermanic District where the Sileno Property is located.  They join me in this call to find a resolution to this matter which is broadly acceptable.

An operating agreement for the proposed fill operation of Super Excavators will not be considered by the Plan Commission at this time.
