Central, East Roll Through Soccer Tournament Openers

Central and East, both perennial contenders for a state berth, are one match away from a showdown to earn that right again.

Brookfield Central and Brookfield East have both reached the sectional semifinal round of the WIAA Division 1 girls soccer tournament with relative ease.

Top-seeded Central received a bye in the first round and then handled West Allis Hale 7-1 in the second round, with seven different scorers contributing, according to WisSports.net. The Lancers host Tosa East at 7 p.m. Thursday.

East thumped Cudahy/St. Francis 10-0 and beat Franklin 2-0 on Saturday. Jackie Wandt and Lauren Knudsen scored for East on Saturday, according to WisSports.net. The third-seeded Spartans visit Divine Savior Holy Angels at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Victories by both Brookfield teams set up a rematch of their regular-season match, won 2-0 by Central, on Saturday for the right to go to state.
