East Football Team Tops Greendale to Advance in Playoffs

Brookfield East's Zach Schober scored three touchdowns and rushed for 166 yards Friday night to propel the Spartans to a 28-21 win over Greendale in a second round game in the WIAA Division 2 football playoffs.

Alec James scored the other touchdown on a 67-yard run in the third quarter, according to game stats from WisSports.net.

The victory sets up the possiblity of a third round game between East and Brookfield Central, which takes on Whitefish Bay at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bay. The winner of that game will play Brookfield East on Nov. 1 or Nov. 2.

According to WisSports.net:

Schober scored his first TD on a 1-yard run with 6:59 left in the first quarter to give the Spartans a 7-0 lead. Greendale answered with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Josh Ringelberg to Cody Kmetz with one minute left in the quarter. East retook the lead with a 37-yard touchdown run by Schober with 11 seconds left in the quarter.

After a scoreless second half, Schober scored again, this time on a 6-yard run, with 4:58 in left in the third quarter, to give East a 21-7 lead. Greendale cut the lead to 21-14 with less than a minute left in the third on a 2-yard touchdown run by Ringelberg.

East regained its 14-point lead on James' 67-yard touchdown run. Greendale put the final points on the board with a 7-yard TD pass from Ringelberg to Mitchell Brees with 4:43 left in the game.

East quarterback Zach Damico completed 10 out of 20 passes thrown, for 72 yards passing. He also rushed 17 times for 53 yards, according to WisSports.net.

The Panthers' Ringelberg also was 10-for-20, and he had 98 passing yards. He also rushed for 77 yards.

Greendale's Jake Zywicki was the leading rusher for both teams — 15 carries for 80 yards. Kmetz led all receivers with 66 yards.

Greendale, which was seeded fifth in its bracked, finishes the season with a 6-4 record.

Top-seeded Brookfield East improves its record to 10-0.
