Joe Thomas is 5 for 5 in Pro Bowl Selections

Brookfield native and Cleveland Browns star tackle set to head to Honolulu again.

Calling it an honor that never gets old, Brookfield native Joe Thomas accepted his fifth consecutive NFL Pro Bowl trip on Tuesday as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

The offensive tackle told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that there’s no big secret to his success — hard work, preparation and good technique.

Thomas has started all 79 games since joining the Browns in 2007, with one more contest remaining this year against Pittsburgh. The team again has struggled, with a record of 4-11. But Thomas has been charged with only three sacks all season, and a Plain Dealer poll showed that three-quarters of the team’s fans think Thomas’ honor was well deserved.

The former all-state tackle at Brookfield Central and star at University of Wisconsin hasn’t forgotten his roots, either. Earlier this year he donated $5,000 toward the debut from installing artificial turf at the high school’s football/soccer stadium.

The NFL Pro Bowl is on Jan. 29, one week before the Super Bowl.
