Brookfield East and Central wrestlers had a good showing on the first day of the state meet in Madison.

Brookfield East advanced two wrestlers into the WIAA Division 1 state semifinals on Thursday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Larry Watson, a senior, beat Quinn Faust of Mount Horeb/Barneveld 3-2 in his opening match at 171 pounds, then came back a couple hours later and recorded a 16-9 decision over Luke Roffers of Fond du Lac. Watson (40-7) meets Ryan Cone (38-12) from powerhouse Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln on Friday in the semifinals.

His Spartan classmate, Tyler Lecher, posted a pair of victories at 215 pounds to reach the semifinals. He topped Erik Vruwink of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 16-10 and followed up with a 3-2 decision over Brett Geilenfeldt of Marquette High School, improving his record to 45-3.
