Spartans Crush Foes in Falls Invitational

Boys win big; girls strong in second-place finish.

It's not always the individual victories that win track meets, it's the points piled up from the rest of the athletes who place.

But when you're doing both of those things, look out.

Brookfield East's boys won eight events and added a host of points beneath them to score 191.5 points and dominate the Menomonee Falls Invitational on Tuesday. Full results are available at WisSports.net.

"It really shows the depth of our team and that's been one of our strengths since Day 1," East coach Mike Steiner told JSOnline.com. "We've got talented kids. That's what it comes down to. (This is) a very good test. There are some quality programs here. We're proud of the fact that our kids come and compete to the best of their ability."

East's winners were hurdlers Aaron Dillon in the 110 highs and Aaron Thompson in the 300 lows; sophomore Trenton Daniels in the 400; the 3,200 relay team; and jumpers Darius Barnes (high jump), Kyle Rohde (triple jump), Ron Langdon (long jump) and Andy Wanta (pole vault).

None of the performances made a dent in the state's honor roll, but when you count up all the seconds, thirds and so on, the Spartans are just as dominant in their own way. They won the Greater Metro Conference indoor meet and the , and have their sights set on the overall outdoor championships next week.

East's girls also put on a strong performance, finishing second behind Sussex Hamilton, 120-114.

Junior Maddie Timm (11:37.97) and senior Taylor Stewart (11:39.90) took the top two spots in the 3,200. Katie Tolan won the 800 and Alisha Harper the 200 for the Spartans. Hamilton had to win the last two events, the 1,600 relay and the pole vault, to win the meet. Full results are at WisSports.net.

Brookfield East coach Jeff Ferguson told JSOnline.com: "(Timm and Stewart) kind of fed off of each other and towed each other around the track. It's a big boost to come up with 18 points (in the 3,200)."
