Spartans Win 3rd Consecutive State Title; Lancers in 4th Place

Brookfield East captures the final event Saturday night in La Crosse to take home the team trophy.

Brookfield East athletes knew they basically needed to win the 1,600-meter relay on Saturday night in La Crosse to win the school's third straight WIAA boys track and field championship.

In that final event, the Spartans came through to edge Green Bay Preble 51-50 and take home the third consecutive crown.

East won three of the event's four relays, including the 3,200 on Saturday. Glen Harold was second in the pole vault at 15 feet, 9 inches and broke the existing state record. Mitch Douglas was third in the 110 hurdles, Zec Copeland was fourth in the 300 hurdles and Brad Johnson was sixth in the 800.

Brookfield Central, meanwhile, was fourth in the team competition. Carl Hirsch repeated as champion in the 1,600 and 3,200 and placed third in the 800 after falling near the finish line, scoring 26 points by himself. Andrew Dusing was second in the 800 and Elliott Yanasak was sixth in the pole vault.
