Watson Advances to WIAA Championship Match
Senior meets Milton's Johnson in 171-pound final on Saturday
Larry Watson of Brookfield East got an early lead and held on to defeat Ryan Cone of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 4-3 on Friday and advance to 171-pound championship match at the WIAA state wrestling tournament.
Watson (41-7) faces Milton junior Ian Johnson (36-4) in the title match at the Kohl Center.
The Spartans' other semifinal representative, Tyler Lecher, was pinned in 3:53 by unbeaten Muskego junior Jordan Gruettner in the 215-pound bracket. Lecher, also a senior, is 45-4. He wrestlers Grant Schindler of Chippewa Falls in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In the consolation bracket, Keith Day of Brookfield Central pinned Danny Krause of Germantown and then lost 5-2 to Brandon Capetillo of Sheboygan South.
