WIAA Baseball: Central Meets East Saturday for State Berth

Brookfield East and Brookfield Central each won WIAA summer baseball sectional semifinal games at Germantown on Friday, and they'll travel up Pilgrim Road on Saturday to decide a berth at the state tournament.
Due to rain that delayed Friday's semifinals, the championship game was moved to 5 p.m. Saturday, from Friday.

East defeated Pewaukee 6-5 in the second semifinal game by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Spartans led 5-3 heading into the final inning, but two errors contributed to two runs and Pewaukee tied the game.

In the seventh, Mike Eberle led off with a walk and pinch-runner Andy Wiesen took second on a wild pickoff throw. Bryan Sylla was intentionally walked and a sacrifice bunt moved up the runners and loaded the bases when the out was not made at first.
With bases loaded, a wild pitch brought Wiesen home with the winning run.
Patrick O'Brien and Nick Kanavas each drove in a pair of runs; O'Brien socked a solo homer to right for the game's first run. Starting pitcher Brian Sylla went six strong innings.
East improved to 16-13; the Spartans were 1-2 in three games against Central during the regular season.
Brookfield Central got four hits from Connor Shipman and more hitting up and down the lineup to beat Menomonee Falls 10-6 in Friday's first game.
The Lancers improved to 21-11 with the victory. Dan Barwick stroked two doubles and Jack Lawton also had two hits for the Lancers. Matt Haralson was the winning pitcher and Brad Leachy threw the final 1 2/3 innings to close out the game.
