UPDATED WIAA Track: Brookfield Academy Relays Headed to Final
Blue Knights boys set state mark in 400 relay.
Brookfield Academy’s boys 4x100 relay team started their weekend off with a bang, setting the Division 3 record in the event at the WIAA State Meet in La Crosse Friday afternoon with a time of 43.32 seconds.
Edgar held the previous record of 43.54, set in 1996.
The kicker of it for Brookfield Academy is, they broke the record while just qualifying for tomorrow’s final.

“That was the best relay we’ve ever had,” senior standout and University of Wisconsin football recruit Fred Willis said of his team. “I know our second-to-third-leg handoff was kind of bad and my hand off was pretty bad, but we still got the state record.
“We’re looking to break records this year.”

Willis, as well as many other athletes, mentioned the heat factor as temperatures are set to reach the low 90s later in the day.
According to Willis, the abrupt heat spike combined with the high humidity has made conditions a little more difficult than expected.
With a cooler day expected on Saturday, Willis said he plans for even better times.
“Tomorrow we should probably break 42 (seconds),” he said.
The girls team finished well in their qualifier as well, taking third with a time of 51.01 seconds.
Edgar qualified for first (49.89) with Cashton coming in second (50.70).
The two teams earned the right to run again on Saturday, with track events set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
