Brookfield National Night Out Adds Flight for Life, Anti-Bullying

A night of safety education and fun will be held Aug. 1 in the city's Civic Plaza, finishing with a flashlight walk against crime.

A Flight for Life helicopter and Brookfield East High School anti-bullying booth will be among the new features at the 2012 Brookfield National Night Out on Aug. 1.

"It's been years since we've had a Flight for Life helicopter," said Denise Carroll, Community Services Officer for the Brookfield Police Department.

The public is invited to attend the city's 14th annual National Night Out, from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Civic Plaza between City Hall and the Public Safety Building, 2100 N. Calhoun Rd. The evening ends with a flashlight walk against crime.

More than 500 families — or 2,000 to 3,000 people — on average attend the annual event.

"We focus on keeping Brookfield a safe place," Carroll said.

Kohl's Cares will be there with its "The Great Safety Adventure," a semitrailer that converts to a 1,000-square-foot home. The house set teaches children and adults how to avoid five home safety dangers: falls, poisoning, drowning, fires and burns, and choking and suffocation.

"It just is so educational — we're really looking forward to having them come out to National Night Out," Carroll said.
