No Fire Pit S'Mores: Burn Ban Still On

While Menomonee Falls and Muskego lifted their outdoor burning bans Thursday, Brookfield's fire chief said Friday the city is closely monitoring reports but has NOT lifted the ban.

Although and lifted their outdoor burning bans Thursday, Brookfield's fire chief said Friday that recent rain hasn't been enough to abate fire dangers.

"Thankfully, we have gotten some rain and things are getting greener," Chief Charlie Myers said. "We continue to evaluate the situation daily."

But Myers added: "Our area remains in a drought."

He said he was heeding advice, including the state Department of Natural Resources' continued report that "due to the current drought situation, introducing fire of any kind in the outdoors is strongly discouraged."

Despite the DNR recommendation, Oak Creek, Greendale and Greenfield also lifted their burn bans.

The city's ban includes "fires in all outdoor fireplaces, pits, burning lawn waste, campfires and the private use of consumer fireworks, including sparklers, caps and novelty fireworks.... This ban does not prohibit residents from using contained grills for cooking food."

All fireworks, including caps and sparklers, also continue to be banned. Violators will receive citations.
