Did Gov. Scott Walker break a campaign promise when he vowed to keep pork out of the state budget?
Some campaign promises build in a bit of wiggle room. The one made by candidate for governor Scott Walker to “Strip policy and pork projects from the state budget” did not. This unequivocal pledge, posted on Walker’s campaign website, committed the candidate to eschewing both parties’ longstanding practice of using the budget to make policy changes and reward special interests. In April 2011, less than four months into Walker’s term, the truth-testers at PolitiFact Wisconsin branded this a broken promise. It noted that the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau had identified dozens of non-fiscal items in the governor’s budget repair bills and first biennial budget. Walker’s latest executive budget, for 2013-15, included what the Fiscal …

Concerned citizen, worried by clanging alarm that something is amiss at a neighbor's home, calls police, who fly to the scene but can't put the cuffs on this home-breaker.
A usually quiet, woodsy neighborhood of Brookfield is fortunately not going to the dogs, but it is certainly for the birds. At 6:07 p.m. May 8, a resident of the 18200 block of W. Burleigh Road called police to report an audible alarm going off repeatedly at the home of a neighbor two doors away. Worried there might be a break-in, the caller had gone to his neighbor’s home, he said, and didn’t see anything suspicious. He tried the doorbell, but no one answered. But the alarm kept sounding, he said, some sort of very loud outdoor system that sounded like a big bell. He noted to officers that there are ADT alarm company signs posted on the property. Most puzzling was that the alarm would sound for awhile, then stop, then turn back on, over …

Allison Feix says her mother is tops because she has raised two children while caring for a quadriplegic husband who is also fighting leukemia.
From moms that rock the volunteer scene to moms who always know the right thing to say, dozens of entries into Patch's "Why My Mom is Best" contest warmed our hearts and made us smile. But amid all the spectacular stories was a daughter's touching tale about her mother's battle with cancer while helping a quadriplegic husband with leukemia that stole our hearts. "My mom, Lynn, deserves an escape," Allison Feix wrote about her mother, Lynn Molter. "She's raised two kids and works as a medical technologist, while being the care taker for my father, who has leukemia and has been a quadriplegic for the past twenty seven years. She is a recent breast cancer survivor, who puts the needs of her loved ones before her own. Some time away would be …

See, you attach yourself to "common people" despite the fact that most of those common people have benefitted and support this type of legislation. But if you're a liberal, calling the state hypocritical now, I would ask if you had thr same position when your side was in charge? And if the …   more ›
