In final Patch survey of influencers, Republicans predict a close race in Wisconsin, while Democrats seem sure of Obama’s victory here.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Patch’s final survey of Wisconsin political insiders reveals that party influencers believe the presidential candidates they support will previal in Wisconsin and nationwide in Tuesday's election. However, Democrats insiders seem a bit more confident that President Barack Obama will take Wisconsin, while Republicans are projecting a close race with Mitt Romney ultimately winning, with many saying polls that show Obama in the lead will be proven wrong. As it has throughout the campaign, Patch sent its "Blue Wisconsin" and "Red Wisconsin" surveys to more than 150 activists and insiders of both parties, and 60 and 40 Democrats participated in this survey. Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan campaigned in Waukesha on Monday and held a town hall meeting that was dominated by the economy. Ryan promised an Aaron Rodgers-eque all-star performance to address the nation's financial problems.
Capitalizing on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' all-star performance Sunday night, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan told a Waukesha crowd Monday that Americans can expect a similar game-changing performance from him and nominee Mitt Romney, if they are elected in three weeks. As the nation anticipates Thursday’s vice presidential debate, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says the best thing Paul Ryan can do is be Paul Ryan. Wisconsin’s native son Ryan will join the stage with Vice President Joe Biden Thursday in Danville, KY. Wisconsin stands as a crucial swing state in November, and both parties are taking notice. President Barack Obama and Ann Romney, the wife of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, both have scheduled campaign stops in Milwaukee this week. Romney will hold a rally at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Marquette University. The event will be held in the old gym at 1530 W. Clybourn St. The event is open to the public, but anyone who wants to attend must RSVP online at the campaign's website. Obama has scheduled at rally Saturday at Henry Maier Festival Park on the Summerfest grounds. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and tickets are required for admission. Patch's Democrat insiders express more confidence that the convention gave their candidate a lift, and Clint Eastwood's "Empty Chair" speech was either a big hit or a big flop for GOP insiders.
The presidential conventions are held to not only select each party’s candidate, but to rally voters just months before the November election. However, which convention succeeded more in energizing its base? In its latest Red and Blue Wisconsin poll, Patch asked insiders from both sides of the aisle to assess the impact their convention had on voters and their candidates. To no surprise, a majority of insiders felt more confident in their candidate’s chances of winning in November post-convention. For Democrats, 86 percent of the 45 insiders polled felt more confident in President Barack Obama’s chances of winning a second term after the convention. Republican support is the strongest yet during the presidential election, according to the latest Rasmussen poll released Thursday.
It’s not completely clear how much U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan has impacted presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign. But in Wisconsin, Romney now has a slight lead among likely voters in the first poll released since Romney's announcement Saturday. A Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday shows Romney with 48 percent support in Wisconsin to President Barack Obama’s 47 percent. Romney, who trailed Obama by three points in late July, has turned the tables in the state. According to Rasmussen, it’s the largest level of Republican support to this point in the state. Three Republicans are vying for a chance to advance to the Nov. 6 general election in the Waukesha County Register of Deeds race in Tuesday's primary election. James Behrend, Barbara Larson-Lloyd and Michael Starich are competing for the running in the primary. And with no Democratic opponent, whoever snags the most votes on Tuesday will most likely take the position. While each candidate says they plan to increase the public’s accessibility to county documents to reduce costs, incumbent James Behrend, 56, is the only candidate who didn’t mention restructuring the position all together, according to the Mukwonago Chief. Just one week after his last campaign trip to Hudson, Gov. Scott Walker returned Saturday to deliver another stump speech at St. Croix County Republican Party's Hudson Victory Center. This time, his wife Tonette joined him. State Rep. Dean Knudson (R-Hudson) introduced the governor to a crowd of more than 100 cheering supporters. State Rep. Erik Severson (R-Osceola) also was in attendance. Walker is facing Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in a gubernatorial recall election on Tuesday.
