In final Patch survey of influencers, Republicans predict a close race in Wisconsin, while Democrats seem sure of Obama’s victory here.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Patch’s final survey of Wisconsin political insiders reveals that party influencers believe the presidential candidates they support will previal in Wisconsin and nationwide in Tuesday's election. However, Democrats insiders seem a bit more confident that President Barack Obama will take Wisconsin, while Republicans are projecting a close race with Mitt Romney ultimately winning, with many saying polls that show Obama in the lead will be proven wrong. As it has throughout the campaign, Patch sent its "Blue Wisconsin" and "Red Wisconsin" surveys to more than 150 activists and insiders of both parties, and 60 and 40 Democrats participated in this survey. Most Republican insiders — 70 percent — predicted that Romney …

Former was in Waukesha rallying Democratic support with just five days left before the election. In the waning moments of the campaign, both parties have targeted the Badger State in what could be a photo finish Nov. 6.
Former President Bill Clinton stumped deep in the heart of Republican territory in Wisconsin Thursday to talk dollars, cents, and arithmetic before a crowd of roughly 600 people in Waukesha. Clinton — dubbed the "Secretary of Explaining Things" minutes before by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett — praised President Barack Obama’s plan to rebuild the economy, saying that it was based upon arithmetic. He couldn’t say the same for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s plan to restore the nation’s economy, which Clinton said would undermine the identity of the country. Clinton said there’s a reason Romney has been mum on explaining how his tax cuts add up. “There is no possible way to do this without cutting education, without cutting …

Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan campaigned in Waukesha on Monday and held a town hall meeting that was dominated by the economy. Ryan promised an Aaron Rodgers-eque all-star performance to address the nation's financial problems.
Capitalizing on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers' all-star performance Sunday night, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan told a Waukesha crowd Monday that Americans can expect a similar game-changing performance from him and nominee Mitt Romney, if they are elected in three weeks. Ryan, Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch all tapped into the Packers' 42-24 upset win over the Houston Texans during the morning rally. Ryan did away with the typical stage and podium, and instead opted for a more personal town hall format. Roughly 1,500 people packed the cozy confines of the Van Male Field House. Ryan took six questions from random members of the audience – from a 13-year-old to a union laborer. Walker received a …

As as the only vice presidential debate nears, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker weighs in on what we can expect to see on Thursday.
As the nation anticipates Thursday’s vice presidential debate, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says the best thing Paul Ryan can do is be Paul Ryan. Wisconsin’s native son Ryan will join the stage with Vice President Joe Biden Thursday in Danville, KY. It’s the second of four scheduled debates before the election, and is the only debate between the Republican congressman and Biden. "The only thing I would tell Paul Ryan is, 'to be yourself.' Those would be my simple words," Walker told Patch on Tuesday. "Paul Ryan is at his best when he is himself and in his element. He’s a man who can be aggressive but also respectful." Thursday's debate has taken on added importance after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney emerged as the winner …

Patch's Democrat insiders express more confidence that the convention gave their candidate a lift, and Clint Eastwood's "Empty Chair" speech was either a big hit or a big flop for GOP insiders.
The presidential conventions are held to not only select each party’s candidate, but to rally voters just months before the November election. However, which convention succeeded more in energizing its base? In its latest Red and Blue Wisconsin poll, Patch asked insiders from both sides of the aisle to assess the impact their convention had on voters and their candidates. To no surprise, a majority of insiders felt more confident in their candidate’s chances of winning in November post-convention. For Democrats, 86 percent of the 45 insiders polled felt more confident in President Barack Obama’s chances of winning a second term after the convention. On the other side, 64 percent of the 73 GOP insiders polled felt more confident in Mitt …

Republican support is the strongest yet during the presidential election, according to the latest Rasmussen poll released Thursday.
It’s not completely clear how much U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan has impacted presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign. But in Wisconsin, Romney now has a slight lead among likely voters in the first poll released since Romney's announcement Saturday. A Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday shows Romney with 48 percent support in Wisconsin to President Barack Obama’s 47 percent. Romney, who trailed Obama by three points in late July, has turned the tables in the state. According to Rasmussen, it’s the largest level of Republican support to this point in the state. The Rasmussen poll was sent to 500 likely voters, and has a 4.5 percent margin of error. According to a Quinnipiac University Poll released Aug. 8, Obama …

Republicans James Behrend, Barbara Larson-Lloyd and Michael Starich are facing off come Tuesday to snag the job of Register of Deeds.
Three Republicans are vying for a chance to advance to the Nov. 6 general election in the Waukesha County Register of Deeds race in Tuesday's primary election. James Behrend, Barbara Larson-Lloyd and Michael Starich are competing for the running in the primary. And with no Democratic opponent, whoever snags the most votes on Tuesday will most likely take the position. While each candidate says they plan to increase the public’s accessibility to county documents to reduce costs, incumbent James Behrend, 56, is the only candidate who didn’t mention restructuring the position all together, according to the Mukwonago Chief. Larson-Lloyd, 44, said she would utilize “today’s technological resources” to make as many documents as possible …
