Winning Day Care: Eichers' Kids Followed by Mary Linsmeier School

Eichers' Kids on North Avenue in Brookfield won top place in Patch's Readers' Choice poll, with a strong second for Mary Linsmeier School.

Leaving your first-born child at day care for the very first time is a heart-wrenching experience for parents. But day after day, mothers, fathers, grandparents and guardians learn to trust the day care providers that they depend on to take care of their loved ones. So we asked our readers to weigh in on which Brookfield day care centers they trust, to help those who may be looking for one. Two local centers drew the strongest response: Eichers' Kids and Mary Linsmeier School. An in-home day care center, Cuddlebugs Infant Center, also garnered positive support, as did Amy Montessori School, Creative Pre-School Center and Grandma's House Day Care Center. But the winning day care — with the most votes in our poll and most comments — is …

Where's the Best Place to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

We're seeking readers' favorite places in Brookfield to celebrate all things Irish. Give us your suggestions, and come back next week to vote!

Shamrock Shakes are on the menu at McDonald's. Corned beef is going on sale at the grocery store. I think I saw a leprechaun scurry out of sight behind my garage this morning.  It's March, and that means St. Patrick's Day is almost here.  Whether you celebrate your Irish heritage or just pretend you're Irish for the day, Patch wants to know where you get your green on.  Somewhere you can get corned beef and cabbage? Guiness on tap or an abundance of green beer? Tell us in the comments below the places you think are the best to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Brookfield and what makes those spots so great. Then watch Monday for our Readers' Choice poll and your chance to vote.

Winning Fish Fry: Silver Spur Followed by Historic Red Mill

Two veteran local establishments carried the day in Brookfield Patch's inaugural Readers' Choice poll.

There was a dizzying last-minute race by supporters of the two veteran establishments (who obvious are also very computer savvy), with more than 2,000 votes lodged just between about 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. The final tally: 4,886 votes for Silver Spur and 3,973 votes for The Red Mill. Other local establishments who were distant poll challengers but popular fish fry servers were Slim McGinn's Irish Pub, Mitchell's Fish Market, Culver's, Maxim's Restaurant and Venice…

Town of Brookfield is OK, and I'm going to put Silver Spur in the poll from Elm Grove. Because there are so many places in Brookfield and Elm Grove to get fish fry, I'm going to leave others other the border in Tosa, Wauk, Pewaukee, etc, out. But people can DEFINITELY promote them in the comments and I'll put an "other" in the poll.   more ›
