Peter Tongas and John Orgovan score for Brookfield East in 2-0 win.

The Spartans (21-4-0) got a goal from Peter Tongas in the first half. In the second, it appeared Connor Young had equalized, but a controversial call wiped out the score. John Orgovan headed in a rebound put off the crossbar by Tongas with less than 10 minutes left to seal the victory. Brookfield East faces Middleton (20-3-2) at 2 p.m. Thursday in the WIAA state quarterfinals at Uihlein Soccer Park in Madison. Menomonee Falls closed its season at 20-4-2.

East nearly knocks off top-ranked Marquette in boys soccer, while Central posts two victories — boys soccer over Tosa East and girls volleyball over rival Brookfield East.
Tuesday was a notable night for varsity sports teams at Central and East, and the Patch video camera was on the scene ... or scenes. In boys soccer, Brookfield Central went to Hart Park to face Tosa East. The Lancers scored in the first minute and went on to a 4-0 victory. Over at Central — whose artificial surface was more equipped to handle the wet conditions — Brookfield East faced the state's No. 1 team, Marquette High. It was deadlocked 2-all late in the second half, but the state's top player, Patrick Hodan, set up the game winner for the Hilltoppers in a 3-2 decision. With the win, Marquette (13-0-0, 6-0-0 Greater Metro Conference) locked up the league title over East (14-3-0, 4-1-0). Time Warner Sports 32 had cameras there. Watch …

Spartans' Alan Miranda nets game winner in crosstown rivalry on rare header — for him, anyway — in second overtime.
Alan Miranda doesn’t prefer to score with his head, but it is happening an awful lot lately. The Brookfield East junior headed in two goals, including the game winner in double-overtime, as the Spartans knocked off rival Brookfield Central 3-2 in front of a raucous crowd Tuesday night. East is 12-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the Greater Metro Conference. Central, which also lost in double overtime to No. 1 Marquette, is 2-3-0 in the conference and 5-3-1 in all games. “I normally score with my feet,” Miranda said. “A few days ago, I scored in overtime against Kettle Moraine, again on a header. I don’t know, these three headers, it’s been different for me.” Miranda found himself in the right spot at the right time in the game’s second overtime. …

Why just tie the match, when you can create a memorable highlight as well? Brookfield Central forward Brad Jakober tallied this unbelievable bicycle kick goal against the state's No. 1-ranked Marquette High School back on Sept. 7. The score came with just more than 10 minutes left in regulation and tied the match, 2-all, according to WisSports.net. Marquette, which is rated among the top 20 in the nation, came back to win in the second overtime, however, on a goal by star forward Patrick Hodan. Central's crosstown matchup against Brookfield East is at 7 p.m. today at home. Central is 5-2-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the Greater Metro Conference, while the Spartans are 11-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the league. East faces Marquette a week from today.

Soccer mom...really? Where was he when the ball was kicked? You have no idea because they don't show him in the frame on the video. And talk about dirty, your #4 should have been red-carded...and even he knew it. The ref stops the clock and runs over with his hand in his pocket on a terrible foul by #4 only to realize the kid is already playing with one yelllow and a secon would mean ejection. …   more ›
