A foreign exchange student at Brookfield Central High School was part of a unique intercultural experience Sunday evening at Victory Missionary Baptist Church.
High school students from all over the world came to the intersection of Teutonia Avenue and Center Street Sunday evening for a rare intercultural experience. For 15 years, international students from the Milwaukee-area AFS team have taken a field trip to Victory Missionary Baptist Church in Milwaukee to share their native culture with church members and experience an African-American church service. About 70 AFS students and host families from around the Milwaukee-area participated in the church service, including Brookfield Central High School exchange student Ellen van Schwartzenberg from Germany. Two Brookfield Central students placed high enough in the Milwaukee Section of the American Chemical Society to qualify for the national team.
Two Brookfield Central High School students have qualified to compete for a position on the US Chemistry Olympiad team. Adam El-Meanawy placed seventh and Samuel Soik placed ninth in the Milwaukee Section of the American Chemical Society. One hundred thirty-nine first and second year students from fifteen schools across southeast Wisconsin competed for the opportunity to join the US National Team.

The two high schools released the list of honorees — look up your child's name, their friends and others you know.
Brookfield Central and Brookfield East high schools have released their Honor Roll list for the first and second term of the 2012-13 school year. Students who have been named to the Honor Roll received a grade point average (GPA) with bonus points included of 3.25 or higher for both Term 1 and Term 2 or at least one term with an average of 3.25 or more for both terms earn for the 2012-13 school year. Brookfield East has ten finalists and Central has five.
Fifteen Elmbrook high school students have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Brookfield East students are Brittany Allen, Haley Carter, Jessica Huang, Devan Kreger, Amir Kucharski, David Liu, Ryan Prazynski, Robert Szabo, Veronica Telega, and Jake Walker. Students from Brookfield Central include Allison Earl, Yi Jiang, Annalee Kuse, John Scanlon, and Sam Soik.

The spike coincided with the start of block scheduling. District officials want to compile more information about why it's happening and could make recommendations for any changes this fall.
Increased requests for early graduation from the Elmbrook School District concern school officials, who want to ensure students are prepared for their next steps in life. The Elmbrook School Board Curriculum Committee discussed the trend during a Tuesday meeting and will compile more data in the next few months. During the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years, Brookfield East had a total of eight early graduation requests while Brookfield Central had four. Students at Brookfield East and Brookfield Central high schools would like to see more flexibility for seniors in good standing.
Students at Brookfield East and Brookfield Central high schools would like to see flexible schedules in the senior year as a reward for good behavior and high grades throughout high school. Student representatives from the high schools were scheduled to speak about the possibility of having an open campus before the Elmbrook School Board on Tuesday. An open campus would allow students to leave during lunch breaks to go to local businesses for lunch instead of using the cafeteria or bringing a lunch. A standout hockey goaltender is again leading Union College into the national spotlight, while three other former Brookfield athletes were Academic All-Big 10 in the fall.
Brookfield’s Troy Grosenick has a 9-7-5 record as goaltender for the Union (NY) College men’s hockey team, which was ranked No. 18 in the latest national poll. He was named first-team All-East Coast Athletic Conference this year as a junior, after earning American Hockey Coaches Association first-team All-American honors last year, leading Union to the NCAA Frozen Four. Grosenick, a managerial economics major, received the school’s Sophomore Scholar Athlete Award last year. He is a graduate of Brookfield East, but waited three years to attend college, instead playing club hockey to raise his profile. Seniors from Brookfield East and Brookfield Central make official college commitments on the National Signing Day.
Nine standout student-athletes from Elmbrook School District high schools signed letters of intent on Wednesday to play college sports. Jackie Wandt, girls soccer, Northern Illinois University. Wandt is a four-year starter for the Spartans. “Jackie’s presence in the game is key for us. She plays at a very high level and possesses the ability to slow the game down. She is an excellent captain, and she is well-deserving on this opportunity. She’ll do well at the next level,” said East Coach Matt Schroeder. Brad Johnson, boys track, University of Minnesota.
