The dunk tank funds are helping go toward new scoreboards for two fields.

East 'Superfan' Santo Mirasola Memorialized at Soccer Stadium

The longtime supporter of Brookfield East athletics was honored Tuesday, and his family was on hand for the event.

Brookfield East “superfan” Santo Mirasola, who passed away on March 12 at age 77, was honored Tuesday night by the high school’s athletic department. Mirasola had attended almost 400 events at the school over the last decade, and with his wife Pat was a supervisor for soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, track and field and wrestling, said athletic director Cale Vogel. Fotsch and Friends Finally Lead Central Over East

Brookfield Central senior Sarah Fotsch did work on both ends of the pitch in the intracity girls soccer matchup on Tuesday.

If her play hadn’t said enough, the smile across Sarah Fotsch’s face did. “I’ve been waiting four years to beat East,” said the Brookfield Central senior. Fotsch scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal and anchored the Lancers’ defense in a 2-0 shutout of the Spartans on Tuesday at Brookfield East. Central (7-1-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the Greater Metro Conference) had not topped their crosstown rivals during Fotsch’s high school career but won convincingly Tuesday. Fotsch and fellow defender Josie Nordling scored on headers and East (5-4-0, 3-1-0 Greater Metro) never put Central goalkeeper Rachel Oleson under any duress. “Overall, I didn’t think we defended well,” said East coach Matt Schroeder. “We weren’t able to match their …

Schoolyard Scuffle Turns into Ugly Beat-Down at East

War of 'words' between students turns into after-school fisticuffs and then into a one-sided contest leaving younger boy injured and three older boys facing criminal charges.

Four Brookfield East High School boys were arrested after an ongoing disagreement turned into an after-school fight – and the fight turned into a three-on-one pummeling of a 15-year-old by older boys. Those three were taken into custody, and police sought criminal charges of substantial battery for the injuries they inflicted. But the seeming victim was also cited for disorderly conduct for allegedly playing some part in instigating the fight. According to police reports: At 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to Brookfield East after the 15-year-old Brookfield boy was evasive and uncooperative with teachers and staff who had gotten wind of an altercation after classes let out for the day. He at first wouldn't look anyone in the eye, …

Courtney, What do you mean he is a perfect individual because he is from Brookfield? You can't judge a person from where they live. In reality the Brookfield boy just lost this fight. We win some, we lose some.   more ›

Its time to treat our seniors as young adults and set the expectation that they can manage their free time. That is my first thought. Second thought: What if a 3.0 is the best a student can do and they have no unexcused absenses and no discipline issues. I have a struggling reader and I resent the fact that you would set 3.25 as the criteria. My kid works harder than most an often ends up with a …   more ›
